These artworks combine traditional silverpoint drawing with other metals (24K gold, platinum and aluminium), gold leaf, and watercolour. The amazing intensity of colour is made possible by using the specially formulated undercoat initially developed and used for the drawings in gold. These mixed media artworks may take weeks or even months to complete, and great care has to be taken at every stage from the ground preparation to the final gilding. Each of these steps are essentially non-correctable - one mistake and the artwork, which may mean hundreds of hours of drawing time, can easily be lost. The final result is an image so realistic they are often mistaken for large scale fine art colour photographs.
